The Washington Commanders were in the news on Thursday, July 20th, 2023. The sale of the team has been approved. NFL.com headlined on Thursday evening “NFL owners approve sale of Washington Commanders to Josh Harris group” (Around the NFL staff).

That is great news for fans of the team. There is not a lot expected out of the Commanders in the upcoming season. Their depth chart has Sam Howell as the QB1, an unproven quarterback in the NFL. Washington’s win total is at just 6.5 this season with the UNDER favored at -120 with bet365 futures. The sale of the team will at least stabilize the leadership with about a month and a half to go before the start of the regular season.

Saquon Barkley: sitting or playing?

Washington’s divisional rivals, the New York Giants, also made some recent news. It’s not really clear if Saquon Barkley will be playing or sitting out this season. Barkley got the franchise tag, he was none too happy about it, and he and the Giants are talking about money now. Julia Stumbaugh, writing at BleacherReport on July 20th, headlined “Saquon Barkley Appears to Removes ‘Giants’ from Twitter Bio amid Contract Dispute”.

Barkley, reportedly, has removed association with the Giants from his social media accounts. In the past, there have been players that have done things like that with news to follow in short order that explains exactly why. We’ll see what Barkley and the Giants do but here’s an R-rated Twitter post for profanity that should help fans assess the situation. The Giants currently have a win total of 8.5 with the UNDER favored at a pretty steep -160 (bet365 futures).

Recent NFL Headlines: Fournette

In another news piece from Thursday, Jordan Addison was cited for driving 140 mph. For NFL fans in countries that use the metric system that is 225 kilometers per hour. “Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison was cited for speeding and reckless driving early Thursday morning after he was pulled over for going 140 mph in a 55 mph zone, the Minnesota State Patrol confirmed to NFL.com.

Leonard Fournette, who is a good receiving running back, worked out with the New England Patriots earlier this week. You might remember him from his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, why is this significant? It could only mean that the Patriots, who are projected with a modest 7.5 win total, seem to be eyeing Fournette to boost their running back lineup. With the odds slightly favoring the OVER, this potential signing could give them some much-needed depth. As of now, their top running back is Rhamondre Stevenson, who did show some potential last season. But adding an experienced player like Fournette to the mix could really up their game.

Keep September 7th circled on your calendars. That’s when Week 1 of the NFL season will start. The preseason is just around the corner, starting off with the highly anticipated Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The Cleveland Browns and New York Jets will face off, setting the tone for an exciting weekend of enshrinement celebrations.
