Friday, September 1st, 2023 will be Day 5 at the 2023 US Open. There are a lot of American tennis players on the order of play for the day. They include Ben Shelton and Coco Gauff in the men’s singles and women’s singles draws respectively.

Shelton will be looking for his first appearance in the fourth round of the US Open. This year marks just his second appearance overall in the Flushing Meadows draw. He will face Aslan Karatsev on Friday, a player who had a bad hard-court season leading up to the US Open. Karatsev lost in the first rounds of both the Cincinnati Masters and the Canadian Masters in Toronto.

If Shelton can advance, then he will be into the fourth round, possibly against Tommy Paul. Paul is another American in action on Friday. He is taking on the 21st seed, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Other Americans in action in the men’s singles draw include Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Additionally, there are more players in action on the women’s side.
