The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles will complete a rubber match on Sunday (Yankees vs Orioles prediction). The two teams have split the first two games of their series. They will meet in the stand-alone evening game for Major League Baseball to wrap up the weekend.

There are still two months remaining in the regular season. However, these head-to-head games between divisional foes are starting to take on more and more importance. The Yankees will be keen to win this game to inject some mild hopes into winning the division. At present, New York looks like an outsider even just for a Wild Card. Meanwhile, Baltimore needs as many wins as possible due to the threats from Tampa Bay, Toronto, and Boston.

New York vs Baltimore: Starting Pitching

The Orioles won the opening game of this series 1-0. With that result, the Yankees wasted a strong pitching performance from their ace Gerrit Cole. Now, New York doesn’t have much of a starter to go with on Sunday. They will have to send Luis Severino to the mound to face the Orioles.

Severino has just a 2-4 record, a 6.46 ERA, and a 1.73 WHIP. Baltimore should have plenty of baserunners in this game, at least in the early parts. Severino has looked particularly weak during the month of July. He has an 8.84 ERA when this month is isolated.

When he faced Baltimore on July 6th (note the Tweet below), the Orioles blasted him for 10 hits in just 2.2 innings pitched. Needless to say, Baltimore’s batters should be looking forward to this one. Don’t be surprised if New York has to use a reliever early.

Meanwhile, Dean Kremer will take the mound for Baltimore. If he can pick up a pitching win, then he will improve to 11-4. Heading into the day, there are several pitchers in the majors who had that many wins but no one has more. Kremer held the Yankees to just four hits and one earned run in a win from July 5th.

Yankees vs Orioles Prediction

The Orioles are the favorites in this game, one that they will host. They are priced at -135 with bet365 sportsbook.

They could be placed shorter than that given the pitching match-up and the direction of the two teams. Baltimore has posted an 18-12 record over their last 30 games. During this same period, the Yankees really faded. Our recommendation is to go with Baltimore, a team that is 31-21 from home this season. The starting time for the game is 7 PM ET.
