The Texas Rangers have a lot of players in the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star game. However, they are a team that has been sliding in the standings — at least in terms of winning percentage. The Rangers remain the AL West division leaders but they will need to get things together during the break in order to hang onto top spot.
Art Garcia, writing at Si.com, made the following comments on July 10th, 2023.
“Go back to June 6 when the Rangers were 40-20, and it’s 12-19 since. What once was a lead of 6.5 game in the division is down to 2.0 games over the Houston Astros.”Art Garcia/Si.com/July 10th, 2023
The 40-20 mark that the Rangers had at the 60-game point in the season represents their peak so far this season. They would dream of turning things around and getting that high again soon.
You could isolate their games since that time to get some insight into their recent form, which is what Garcia has done. However, you could also isolate a shorter trend as well. Since June 21st, 2023, the Rangers have gone just 5-11 for a winning rate of .312. Texas is fortunate that there is not a dominant team in the AL West as that is one factor as to why the Rangers have yet to lose their lead.
Texas Rangers: Recent Form Alert
- Formerly: 47 – 28 on June 21st, 2023
- Currently: 52 – 39 (overall)
- Recent form: 5 – 11 since June 21st, 2023
- Recent winning rate: .312
What should be made of Texas and its slump? For certain, this is a team where all bets are off when it comes to backing them in futures markets. They have four series after the break where the competition is good. Cleveland, Tampa Bay, the LA Dodgers, and then a road series at Houston are coming up. In those 12 games, you might just expect Texas to go 5-7 or worse.
With these Rangers right now, you have to be thinking that betting lines on them missing the playoffs are the ones to take. One sportsbook, bet365, has Texas set at +230 to NOT make the playoffs. That’s not a bad line in MLB futures given the situation at hand.
What would have to happen for Texas to miss the playoffs? It’s not quite as simply as the Rangers just losing the AL West. That would be a requirement but then Texas would have to finish 4th or worse in the Wild Card standings. With four beasts in the AL East contending for those three spots and an emerging Seattle team, Texas could slide to fourth. Our recommendation is to oppose Texas and their playoff chances. Take the Rangers to miss the playoffs at +230 (ie. 23 to 10) with bet365.
