The New England Patriots, who are not even among the Top-20 for 2024 NFL Super Bowl favorites (bet365), had a rather disappointing season in 2022/23. They failed to make the playoffs in what was the second season for QB Mac Jones. It’s safe to say that Hunter Henry, the team’s tight end, also faced some personal challenges. He had just 509 yards receiving and only two touchdowns.

New England Patriots: Henry and Gesicki

The 2023/24 NFL season was undoubtedly his worst season to date. However, Henry remains optimistic about the future of the Patriots in 2023. He believes that they have the potential to bounce back and achieve greater success in the upcoming season.

“I think everyone’s excited for a fresh start and a fresh season,” Henry told Ben Volin of the Boston Globe. “Me and Mac are close, we spend a good amount of time together, we’ve been throwing, getting after it, just trying to get ready to go. Everybody will be fired up and be ready to go.”

Henry, a 28-year-old player who has betting odds available for Offensive Player of the Year (albeit 250 to 1 with bet365), made his way to the Patriots in 2021 after leaving the Los Angeles Chargers. He secured a three-year contract, which is set to end after the next season. At that time, he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Prediction: Mike Gesicki emerges as the top tight-end for NE

Henry remains the TE1 when you look at the depth charts that sports sites have for the team. Don’t be surprised if Mike Gesicki has a bigger season than Henry. Gesicki was not used to his full potential during his time in Miami, a reflection on the coaching with that franchise. He had just 362 receiving yards last season with the Dolphins. He is someone that should be in the 600+ range in New England. Coach Bill Belichick won’t be making the mistake that the Dolphins made.

In order to secure a renewal or to attract interest from other teams next offseason, Henry must elevate his performance this season. If Hunter isn’t effective, then Mike Gesicki might become the tight end of choice. Gesicki joined the New England Patriots following a tenure with the Miami Dolphins. He signed with the team fairly early in the offseason, back in March 2023.

What’s the betting angle on this?

What’s the best betting angle on this? Betting lines involving Gesicki are not directly available in a lot of sportsbooks. He is one of those players that is off the radar in some ways. However, you could picture Mac Jones having a good season as QB success and receiver success go hand-in-hand.

Gesicki is an effective drive closer. He scores his share of touchdowns, partly because of his height (he’s 6’6″). Being that tall helps in the red zone. Look for Mac Jones to do well this season for TD passing. The quarterback is in his third season now and presumably will be improved in his own right. An OVER/UNDER total of 19.5 or passing touchdowns looks low on this QB for a season total (-105 with bet356).
