The Boston Red Sox are 52-47 on the season. Since the All-Star break, they are a team that’s neither here nor there. They’ve gone 4-4 in their eight games since the break.

But the Red Sox are also a team that’s +270 to make the Major League Baseball playoffs (bet365). Since they are not that far out of a Wild Card spot, the Red Sox are worth a look. The chart below, which focuses on roughly the last three weeks, shows that Boston has been playing well lately.

Boston Red Sox: Recent Form Alert

  • Formerly: 40 – 42 on June 30th, 2023
  • Currently: 52 – 47 (overall)
  • Recent form: 12 – 5 since June 30th, 2023
  • Recent winning rate: .706

One problem with the chart above is that it includes the All-Star break. In the past, teams have often changed form after the All-Star break. In a way, the Red Sox fit the bill. They were dynamite heading into the break but have since cooled off.

But the Red Sox are currently on the bubble for the Wild Card. They are two games back of the Toronto Blue Jays, the team who currently has the last Wild Card. It’s safe to say that Boston won’t play .706 baseball for the balance of the season, the winning rate they’ve had over the last 19 games. Major League Baseball teams hardly ever keep that kind of winning rate up.

But none of the three teams currently in the Wild Card positions are playing all that well. Tampa Bay is 11-19 in their last 30. Toronto is just 16-14 over the same sum of games. Houston has the same complexion as Toronto. Meanwhile, to keep all the stats consistent, Boston is 18-12 over their last 30 games. You can see where this could be going.

Importantly, so long as Boston can keep New York, Seattle, and the rest of the lower teams at bay, the Red Sox would only need to overtake one of the Wild Card spots to make the playoffs. You have to think that they are about 50/50 to do that. In short, the odds of +270 look really good on Boston making the playoffs right now. Our recommendation is for bettors to get behind them.
