The Tampa Rays lost another one on Wednesday, this time dropping the second game of their series against the Miami Marlins. In a game where Tampa Bay had a significant on-paper pitching match-up, Miami was the club with the defense. They defeated the Rays 7-1 as the Marlins look to find some form again.

With regard to the Rays, they dropped to 62-43. Nonetheless, they remain 19 games above .500. As per the chart below, Tampa Bay’s winning rate in their last 32 games is just .344.

Tampa Bay Rays: Struggles Since June 17th

The Rays are a team that we have had on a watchlist for several weeks. Currently, they are +725 to miss the playoffs, with 57 games remaining in their regular season schedule. The odds for this market were +2500 a few weeks ago.

In truth, the time to back the Rays to miss the playoffs has largely disappeared. You could place them just a little bit shorter than +725 but it would be foolhardy to consider them much shorter than +400 at this point. This is a team that remains 19 games above .500.

Still, those that took our earlier recommendation to bet the Rays to miss the playoffs at 17 to 1 are sitting pretty at this point. They just haven’t had any kind of quality form since early to mid-June.
